Flames Four Change Homelessness in America has reached record levels — over 650,000 people are unhoused on any given night. Meanwhile, climate change is driving catastrophic wildfires every year, but the country faces a severe shortage of trained wildland firefighters.Current approaches to homelessness are failing. Criminalizing unhoused people for surviving in public does not solve the problem — it pushes people deeper into poverty and cycles of incarceration. At the same time, communities desperately need a resilient workforce to combat wildfires and natural disasters.Solution:The Second Chance Wildfire Program tackles two national crises with one proven solution:We recruit and train motivated unhoused individuals who want a fresh start.Participants receive 30 days of intensive boot camp training, FEMA and Red Card certifications, and teamwork and discipline skills.For those fighting addiction, we offer a two-week onsite detox before training begins.We provide transitional housing, financial coaching, and homebuying support, so graduates move into stable housing and selfreliance.Graduates earn $35,000–$70,000+ per year as certified wildland firefighters — enough to afford housing, build savings, and rebuild their lives.Impact:✅ Reduces homelessness by giving people meaningful, well-paid, essential work.✅ Expands the wildfire response workforce, protecting communities and ecosystems.✅ Saves taxpayers money by reducing strain on shelters, emergency rooms, and jails.✅ Revitalizes local economies and restores hope.Revenue & Sustainability:Our program leverages public safety and climate resilience funding, workforce development grants, and partnerships with firefighting agencies and contractors.
